Kathryn J. Engebretson Scholarship

The Kathryn J. Engebretson Scholarship was established by the William Penn Foundation and a private donor to provide financial support to a student attending Community College of Philadelphia in pursuit of an associate’s degree. Availability is contingent upon funding. Specifically, this award is geared toward individuals returning to college and pursuing a postsecondary degree to enhance their lives and achieve their career goals. The scholarship will provide funding for tuition, fees and books up to $10,000, with no more than $5,000 disbursed in one academic year. Only one scholarship will be awarded each year. Actual receipt of the scholarship is contingent upon the student’s enrollment status and grade point average. This scholarship will be awarded with the explicit understanding that the recipient will have successfully completed the requirements for an associate’s degree within the allotted time. Females are encouraged to apply. Finalists must participate in an interview wit the Selection Committee.

Applicant must fall into one of the following categories:

•An individual returning to school after having been out of school (either high school or college) for a minimum of two years; or
•Current student who returned to school after an absence of two years or more, has completed 15 or less credits at the College and has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
•Applicant must enroll or be enrolled in one of the College’s associate degree programs.
•Applicant can enroll on a part-time or full-time basis, but must enroll in a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester if part-time and a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester if full-time.
•Applicant must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher each semester to remain eligible to receive the scholarship.
